Hartwell was originally built as M.H’s Grocerteria in the late 1950s by my grandfather. As a Raleigh native, it's been so exciting to see our city grow. We are so happy to be a part of Raleigh's growth! We are looking forward to continuing my family's legacy by having our space serve as a retail and community space offering goods from local makers as well as indoor and outdoor spaces to host workshops, events, pop-ups, outdoor markets and more. Opening a community space has been incredibly rewarding. I am so thankful for every opportunity we get to be a part of your lives and to be a part of Raleigh.
MATT DANIELS

Originally from Pennsylvania, Matt came to N.C for college. We convinced him to stay and the rest is history! We met bartending together in downtown Raleigh. In addition to Hartwell, we own a residential renovation business and are specifically focused on preserving and restoring the Boylan Heights community. Matt is the blood and sweat behind Hartwell. We also have a young family that keeps us on our toes. If you've been to Hartwell you've most likely seen our little crew running around. It's exciting to be able to introduce the next generation to our family business.
